A Meme

Being snowed in all week, lack of sunshine, and just doing the same ole same ole, I've been struggling to be motivated to blog. I haven't even been visiting. After receiving an email from my girlfriend Jill telling me to put down my quilt and start blogging I thought I better get a post up right away. For lack of anything interesting, I thought I would post this meme I had saved. I don't remember where I saw this, but here goes.

What kind of soap is in your bathtub right now?
A bottle of Dove liquid soap. My dermatologist told me to use only the bar of Dove, but I prefer the liquid.

Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
Not this time of year.

What would you change about your living room?

I'm considering turning my living room into a sewing room. I never use the living room for anything but reading, so I thought I would install glass doors and move my sewing machine and computer into the living room. There is no rule a living room has to be a living room. Right!

Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?

Dirty. I didn't have a full load to turn it on last night after dinner.

What is in your fridge?
Not much since I need to go grocery shopping. Besides the normal condiments, there is milk, juice, leftover salmon patties, salad fixings, butter, etc.

White or wheat bread?
White.

What is on top of your refrigerator?
A wine rack, a casserole carrier and dust bunnies.

What color or design is on your shower curtain?

Cream with embroidered flowers made from ribbon.

How many plants are in your home?
Two, and that reminds me I need to do a post about one of them, because it is almost 20 years old. (I'll save this story for another day).

Is your bed made right now?
No, I don't make the bed until after I shower. I'm still drinking coffee and blogging.

Comet or Soft Scrub?
Both, there are times when Comet is a must.

Is your closet organized?
I recently cleaned my bedroom close and it looks sooooo gooood! As for the other closets...no way.

Can you describe your flashlight?
We have one of those that never needs batteries, you just shake it for 20 seconds and it comes on, and a variety from pen lights to spot lights.

Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home?
Glass, I don't like plastic.

Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
Absolutely!!!

If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
Is there such a thing as an uncluttered garage???

Curtains or blinds?
Both

I sleep with two pillows and them must be a combination of feather and down.

Not in the bedroom, but there is a nightlight room freshener in the hall.

Once a week unless more is needed.

Standard toothbrush or electric?
Standard.

What color is your toothbrush?
Orange.

I don't have a front porch, just steps. So the answer is no.

Nothing, but I would like to have some muffins baking.

Is there anything under your bed?
When I was single I kept a baseball bat under the bed and I still keep one there.

Chore you hate doing the most?
I hate to unload the dishwasher.

What retro items are in your home?
Retro or antique? When I think of retro I think of the 50's. For retro I have a telephone stand, and for antiques, I have a washstand, filing cabinet, oil lamps, wall telephone, bed, kettle that was used for cooking over an open fire, and several other items.

Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
No, my desktop computer is in my bedroom. Another reason for redoing the living room.

How many mirrors are in your home?
Seven.

Absolutely, I always keep mad money.

What color are your walls?
The guest bathroom is blue, my kitchen is yellow and I need to paint the rest of the house which is an off white.

Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home?
Hubby has a few guns and of course my baseball bat under my bed.

What does your home smell like right now?
Probably like my dog. I can smell my coffee.

What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now?

What kind of question is this? Bread and butter, dill, sweet and jalapeno.

What color is your favorite Bible?
Purple

Ever been on your roof?

Do you own a stereo?

How many TVs do you have?
Three. One in the greatroom, one in the bedroom and one in a cabinet in the kitchen.

How many house phones?

Four

I have both.

Is there a smoke detector in your home?
Yes. There is one in each room.

In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you’d grab if you only could make one quick trip?
Probably my computer because that is where my most important information is stored. My critical documents are in a safety deposit box at the bank.

Hope you enjoyed reading this meme. Right now I'm going to have breakfast then I'll be around visiting.

Have a great weekend.

Page 123 Meme

Renee` at Two Peas in Pod has tagged me with wonderful book meme. Here’s the guidelines:

1. Pick up the book nearest you.
2. Turn to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Type and post the next three sentences after the fifth one.
5. Tag five people.

I haven't been to the library for weeks, so I just grabbed the first book off my shelf. Renee`, I must thank you for asking me to do this meme. I had forgotten about this book. I can't remember where it came from but I'm going to read it right away. Here's the passage.

The wind had died, and already she could feel the heat of the day rebuilding, steam forming on the ground. His heart thumped steadily under her ear, his chest rose and fell with cadence of his breathing, and the warm musky odor of his body mingled with the faint, fresh, lemony fragrance of his aftershave. He smelled delicious, she thought dimly, just the way a man should smell.

The book is "Kill and Tell" by Linda Howard.

Now I will tag anyone on my blogroll or who comes to visit. Just let me know and I'll come and read your post.

Christmas Meme

In keeping with the general Holiday theme I want to know a little bit more about you and your Christmas habits! So I am passing along this cute, quick Christmas Meme that I have seen on several blogs. If you have not already done this Meme, please feel free to take it and let me know so I can by and check out your answers!

Here goes:

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both. I use bags for several toys.
2. Real or artificial Tree? Artificial. We got a new one this year.
3. When do you put Christmas tree up? We never put the tree up until mid December until the past few years. Now its as soon after Thanksgiving as I can get it organized.
4. When do you take the tree down? First week in January
5. Like egg nog? Absolutely not!
6. Do you have a nativity scene? No. I use to have one, just haven't bought a new one.
7. Favorite gift received as a child? A grown-up watch. It was a Helbros with two little diamonds. I was in the 6th grade. I will never forget it and I still have this watch.
8. Hardest person to buy for? My son and son in law.
9. Easiest person to buy for? The grandbabies.
10. Worst Christmas gift? Two cans of Campbell's soup. I need to do a full post about this one. ROFL!!!!
11. Mail or email a Christmas Card? Both. There are a few Internet buddies I send an ecard to because I don't have their home address.
12. Favorite Christmas movie? The Christmas Story.
13. Favorite food to eat at Christmas? Too many!!
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes. This is another post in itself.
16. Favorite lights? Multicolored but our new tree has all white lights.
17. Favorite Christmas Song? “White Christmas"
18. Travel during Christmas or Stay Home? Stay Home
19. Can you name Santa's reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen & the most famous reindeer of all...Rudolph.
20. Angel or Star on Tree top? Neither. I was using a snowman's head. Now don't laugh, it was really cute. The grandbabies loved it. Our new tree is too small to hold the head, so this year our top is bare unless I can find the appropriate topper.
21. Least favorite thing about this time of year? The stress. No matter how early I start planning for Christmas, it seems like I'm down to the last minute completing everything.
22. Which one person do you really want to see blessed this Christmas and why. I have two. First my daughter who has endured an extremely difficult pregnancy. Her baby is due in February and she is still experiencing more sick days than well. Second, a neighbor and friend who is in the early stages of a miscarriage. This would have been her second child. This Christmas will be hard for her and her family.

Maybe you have learned a little more about me from this little meme. I bet you look forward to the Campbell soup post!!

Flavour of the Month Meme

I've been tagged by forgetfulone for this meme.
This is just for fun!
Here's Diana's disclaimer: I do not put faith in astrology, and this is purely for entertainment purposes.

I, however, believe to some extent in astrology. If my horoscope told me not to get on an airplane, I would postpone my trip, or drive. If my horoscope said I would be coming into some money, I would laugh!! That being said, here's the rules.

1. Mention the person who tagged you and create a link back to them.
2. Copy-paste the traits for all the twelve months (see below).
3. Pick your month of birth (see below).
4. Highlight the traits that apply to you.
5. Tag 12 people and let them know by visiting their blogs and leaving a comment for them.
6. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve done it!

My Birthday is in October!

I'm going to comment about each trait that I agree with in red, and those I don't in blue.

OCTOBER: Loves to chat. (Boy, do I.) Loves those who loves them. Loves to take things at the center. (Now what do they mean by this?) Inner and physical beauty. (Inner beauty, I think so) Lies but doesn’t pretend. (I'm a horrible at telling a lie. When I'm about to tell a lie, I tell that person I'm about to lie, so I don't pretend) Gets angry often. (not often) Treats friends importantly. (I cherish my friends) Always making friends. (It's not easy for me to make friends) Easily hurt but recovers easily. (My feelings are easily hurt and I try to get over it quickly.) Daydreamer. (Oh yes, I love to daydream) Opinionated. (Absolutely, but not to the point of compromising). Does not care of what others think. (I care deeply what other people think about me.) Emotional. (Oh, yes) Decisive. (It takes me a long time to make a decision, but when I do, I'm confident with my decision) Strong clairvoyance. (Maybe not strong, but there are some things I'm able to sense before they happen) Loves to travel, the arts and literature. (This is a true trait of Libra's. I have a deep love for travel and the arts, but not as much for literature.) Touchy and easily jealous. (I am a touchy person. I want to hug my friends and family when I see them. I use to be very very jealous, but now I'm not at all) Concerned. Loves outdoors. (One of favorite things is sitting on my porch, drinking a glass of iced tea and enjoying nature) Just and fair. (I think so) Spendthrift. (Absolutely) Easily influenced. (I would say gullible) Easily loses confidence. (Given the right circumstances, I would say I could easily lose confidence in myself) Loves children. (I couldn't wait to get married and have children. They are the loves of my life. I also love being around other people's children too.)

As you can see, I agree with most of the traits of a Libra.

I've been tagged by Gill for this meme. Here are the rules:

Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.

Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
Let each person know that they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Here are my 7 Random And/Or Weird Facts About Me:

1. One of my first jobs as a little girl was selling trained butterflies. My girlfriend Sherry and I discovered if you rub a butterfly’s wings they could not fly for awhile. We convinced Sherry’s Dad into making us a butterfly cage that we used to display our very talented butterflies. We went house to house demonstrating our “trained butterflies” to our neighbors. And, yes, we sold many!!!

2. I once appeared on the ABC evening news discussing how foreign medical graduates were making a positive impact in solving the physician shortages in rural areas of West Virginia.

3. I was hit with a big wad of mucus. While vacationing, we stopped at a motel to spend the night. I was walking down to the ice machine when a man opened his door and hocked a big one on my arm. We both stood there staring at each other. I was so shocked I didn’t know whether to slug this guy, kick him in the groin, or scream. Finally he made the first move by apologizing and getting tissues to wipe away his hock.

4. I saw a ghost!!!! One Sunday morning in the late 1970’s I was having breakfast with my family. Suddenly I saw an image floating in the corner of the dining room. This image was many shades of gray and white. It was an elderly woman with long hair. I said, “I just saw Mrs. Jarrett by the window”. Then the phone rang. It was my Mom telling me Mrs. Jarrett just died. She was a friend and neighbor who lived across the street from Mom and Daddy. I believe with my entire sole, Mrs. Jarrett stopped by to tell me goodbye!!

5. I have IBS. It is the IBS with diarrhea. One day after having lunch with a friend I was driving back to the office when the sudden urge hit me. I knew I was not going to be able to make it another 8 blocks to my office. I jerked my car upon the sidewalk in front of a bar, told my friend to watch my car and ran into this dirty bar. After taking care of my business I was then faced with the long walk to the front door while the few men in this bar watched. How embarrassing!!

6. My nickname is Vanetta. The story how I got this nickname is too long to publish here. I will do a post tomorrow on how I got this nickname.

7. I never learned to swim. While living in Gulfport, Mississippi there were three people who lived in our apartment complex who had taught swimming at some point in their life. When they discovered I couldn't swim the took it upon themselves to teach me. Each one of these individuals worked with me for months. Finally they came to a consensus that I can't swim.

This has been my 7 weird things about me. Don't know if you find them interesting, but I'm sure you found some of them weird. I'm not going to tag anyone, but if you would like to play, leave me a message and I'll come and visit.

How much money do you plan to spend this upcoming holiday season?

Everything will be going on plastic this year!! My son is getting married the 20th of this month and I'll be paying for a reception/dinner during the week of Christmas. The girl he is marrying has a little girl who will be 7 in December and my granddaughter will be 3 in December. There's a lot more expenses this year, so I must cut down on actual Christmas gifts.

Soup
What was the last television show you watched, and was it good?

Good Morning America and it was same ole same ole!!

Salad
If you had to paint the walls of your living room tomorrow, what color would you choose?

I am planning on painting the living room soon and I'm debating between a brown or a sage.

Main Course
Name something clever or practical you have thought of that should be invented, but hasn’t yet.

I have thought of an invention and have discussed it with a couple people. Do you really think I'm going to tell you right now. I can say this, all cats owners will say, why didn't I think of that!!!!!

Dessert
List 3 things you would like to receive as gifts this upcoming holiday season.

Having my children and grandchildren home for the holidays is all it will take to make me happy!!!!

BUT, if I wanted to be greedy I would say--New laptop, new digital camera, a day at a spa.

There are 7 horses in the picture.

This week's word is Train.

For more participants visit Barb at Heads or Tails Headquarters.

Each year at the peak of the fall foliage, the New River Train in West Virginia offers a day long train excursion through the mountains for folks to enjoy the fall scenery. This trip is only available the last two weekends in October. The cost ranges from $125 to $350 per person, but is well worth the expense. West Virginia is most beautiful in the fall when mother nature paints our mountains with vibrant colors. No wonder this is my favorite time of year.

Wordless Wednesday

Heads or Tails

This week it's TAILS, we are to list ten things, staying within any category we choose. For more Heads or Tails visit Barb.

Ten Reasons I'm late posting this with week's Heads or Tails

1. I couldn't get to sleep last night, so this morning I'm more groggy than usual.

2. I couldn't decide on a category.

3. I couldn't decide whether to be funny or serious.

4. My desk is a mess which is affecting my ability to concentrate.

5. Why is my desk a mess? Yesterday I spent hours trying to make Heads or Tails (smile) out of my medical bills and insurance claims.

5. I haven't had breakfast, so I'm sitting here thinking about food instead of making a list.

6. That reminds me, I need to go to the grocery store today.

7. My dog is being too rambunctious for me to concentrate.

8. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten this far with this list.

9. I'm sitting here tapping my fingers trying to come up with another reason.

10. I just give up, I can't think of 10.

When was the last time you were surprised?
October 2nd was my birthday and I was surprised by the out pour of best wishes and gifts from my blogging buddies.

Soup
Fill in the blanks: My eyes are ________, but I wish they were __________.
My eyes are fuzzy without my glasses or contacts, but I wish they were 20/20.

Salad
If you were a Beanie Baby, what would you look like and what would your name be?
I would look like a cute Yorkie and my name would be Odie. (I had a Yorkie named Odie and I miss him so much)

Main Course
Name two things you consistently do that you consider to be healthy habits.
Think and think about incorporating healthy habits into my lifestyle.

Dessert
What brand of toothpaste are you using these days? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I used Crest since the 1960's and just recently started buying Colgate. Why, I don't know. I like both as long as they are the gel, I don't particularly care for paste because I think the gels taste better.
