13. Union - I have never belonged to a union.

Thursday 13

This week highlights the letter

1. tablecloth - The only time we have meals at our dinning room table, set with the good china, silver and a tablecloth is a holiday dinner. We now have most of our meals in front of the tv.

2. tackle - Soon I need to tackle fall cleaning. It's just been too hot to even
think about heavy cleaning.

3. tap dance - I took tap dancing lessons in the 80's but had to
drop out because I just couldn't get it. I found it extremely hard. I did continue with my jazz lessons for 3 years. I also participated in the dance recitals.

4. Target - Of all the discount stores I like Target best.

5. tea - My daily drink of choice is iced tea.

6. television - I really enjoy watching tv. So many people are so
quick to say they don't watch tv; however they are able to talk about any show you may mention. Do people think watching tv is not the "thing" to do?

7. temperature - Hallelujah....the temperature has finally dropped to where
it is comfortable to be outside again. template - I wish I knew more about tweaking my blogger template. This winter I plan to dig in and learn more.

8. tennis - I wish I had enough wind to play tennis. When I was in my 20's I play 3 or 4 times a week.

9. theater - Just recently I have started going to the movie theater again.

10. thick - Last night I had a thick chocolate milk shake from DQ. They must have new people
working there because it was very thick and very very chocolaty!!! Yummy!!!!

11. thunder - I use to be afraid of thunder storms when my children were small. They use
to sit in front of the patio doors and watch the lightning show while I tried to get them to come sit with me a read a story. They thought it was funny that the storms made me feel

12. tummy - All my weight has settled in my tummy and mid drift. This
is the worse place a woman should have extra weight and it is so hard to try to lose in this area.

13. thought - I'm sure you can tell that I prepared this post very quickly without giving it much thought.

7. Savour - When eating chocolate, I savour each and every bite.

8. Search engine - When I first started using the internet, I remember the search engine I used was Webcrawler. I have
no idea if it is still around.

This week's Thursday Thirteen About me is with the letter

1. Quack – Through my working career I ran into several doctors who were quacks. This reminds me of skit done by George Carlin. It goes something like this. If you rate all the doctors in the world, you would eventually get to the very last name – the worst doctor in the world. What is really scary is someone has an appointment with him tomorrow.

2. Quibble – I find it ridiculous to quibble over the little things.

3. Quadruple –Since I started driving, the price of gasoline has more than quadrupled and quadrupled again in price. Do you remember 35 cents a gallon?

4 Qualifications – Do either of the presidential candidates have the appropriate qualifications to run our country?

5 Quality of life – I hope that as long as I’m here on earth I will continue to have a good quality of life.

6. Quantum leap – Through my life journey I have taken many quantum leaps in my professional and personal life.

7. Quarrel – This is something I hate to do. It makes me feel uneasy. (Actually I would prefer a good ole fist fight) lol

8. Quarter – When the state quarters first came out I worked very diligently to collect each and every one. Then my enthusiasm wore off and then I would save one occasionally. I don’t even know if I have the WV coin. Shame on me.

9. Quartz – I like gems from quartz as well as the precious stones. I use to wear to blue topaz ring everyday.

10. Queen sized – I have a queen sized bed and I fear if I would buy pant hoses I would need queen sized. Now I’m blushing and looking embarrassed.

11. Quiche – I make a wonderful quiche with 4 different cheeses, sausage, and onions. This is a quiche even men will eat.

12. Quick – Usually I’m very quick to pickup on new techniques with a computer.

13. Quite - Now I know you are quite pleased that I am not going to quiz you on my quirky TT13.

Thirteen things about me starting with the letter

1. Packet of Sweet and Low - I’m one of those who prefer the little pink packets of sweetener over the blue or yellow. The blue makes my skin crawl and I need to use several of the yellow.

2. Packrat - Growing up I was taught not to be wasteful. Outgrown clothes were turned into quilts, and Mom would save those little slivers of soap and would grate them and then use it to wash our clothes. Because of this I hate throwing anything away and thus I’ve become a packrat. I am doing better.

3. Pantyhose - Since retiring I haven’t worn pantyhose except a couple times.

4. Part-time - I’ve been thinking of getting a part-time job. I’m feeling I need to put a little structure back into my life.

5. Partner in crime - Don’t you have girlfriends that you consider your Partner In Crime? Of course I don’t mean plotting to rob a bank, but just one of those girlfriends you can sit and laugh your butt’s off from some of the things you have done together. Gee, these are the best friends.

6. Passenger - I prefer to drive than to be a passenger.

7. Perfume - I’m not a big perfume user. The last several years I have not been able to find a fragrance I like. I use to wear Liz in the triangle red bottle. Do you have a favorite perfume?

8. Petticoat - Do your remember petticoats? I sure do! At one time we worn several at one time that had been starched to give our dresses a lot of fullness.

9. Photography - Lately I’ve been learning photography. I love my new camera!!

10. Piano - I have a piano and took lessons as a child and adult, but can only play chop sticks and not that well. I will never be a pianist. My playing is very mechanical, not natural at all. The rest of my family got all the musical talent.

11. Pillows - I’m very particular about my bed pillows. I prefer a combination of down and feathers. When traveling I usually pack my pillow.

12. Prayer - I thank God everyday for his goodness. Just last night I was apologizing for asking so much for me, me, me, but then I said, “Seems like all children are constantly asking their parents for things for themselves, so I guess I’m just like the rest of your children”.

13. Puzzles - I’ve love doing puzzles, especially Sudoku.

This week brought to you by the letter

1. Oats - Every morning I have oats for breakfast. Not oatmeal, Cheerios. I try different cereals, but I always go back to my favorite, Cheerios.

2. Oglebay - While I was working, I would go to Oglebay every fall for a conference. Oglebay is located in Wheeling, WV, has a championship golf course, and has one of the nations largest Festival of Lights celebration during the Christmas holidays covering more than 300 acres. I have so many wonderful memories of Oglebay.

3. Observatory - While plugging WV, another great area is the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV. It is home to the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the world’s largest fully steerable single aperture antenna. Hubby’s deceased brother has a cabin at Green Bank, and we go there for long weekends. It’s a beautiful rural area and we always tour the observatory. I don't have to worry about leaving my cell phone, because they are prohibited for miles around the observatory.

4. Obsessive - I have a very obsessive personality. When I get on an idea, I don't stop.

5. Obsolete - I am a the type of person who finds it hard to throw things away; therefore, I have so many clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. that is sooo obsolete.

6. Ocean - I would love to live by the ocean.

7. October - October 2nd to be exact is my birthday. I turned the BIG 60 last year.

8. Odor - I have an extremely sensitive nose and can smell odors that other people can’t. That probably why I light candles and have other scented stuff sitting around.

9. Optimistic - I think I’m a pretty optimistic person always trying to see the best in everyone and every situation.

10. Organized - NOT…As much as I strive to be organized I just can’t get it together. I use to blame my disorganization on working and thought once I retired I would have all this time to get everything in order. NOT.

11. Out of body experience - I have this feeling a lot. I feel as if I'm observing everything around me instead of participating. And, NO, I don't do drugs or alcohol. Do you ever have out of body experiences?

12. Overboard - I love, love, love this movie and have probably seen it a dozen times. Actually, I love everything with Goldie Hawn.

13. Oxygen - On hot humid days I feel there is not enough oxygen in the air to breath. The older I get the harder it is on me to be out in hot humid weather. Now I know why Mom always liked winter best.

Thanks for reading.

Today is brought to you by the letter

1. Nails - I’ve always had soft nails. There was a time when I had the artificial nails, but I found it to be pain to go in and get them filled every 3 weeks.

2. Nasty - When I see or think of something nasty I shiver. An example -- A girl that worked for me told me she started seeing someone on our floor. I found him to be (for lack of a better word) nasty. When she told me of their meeting I shivered.

3. Nearsighted - Being nearsighted, I read without my glasses, but if I’m wearing my contacts, I have to put on readers in order to see up close.

4. Neat - I wish I was a neater person. When the kids were at home their stuff was strung all over the house. I kept telling myself, when they are off on their own I can keep the house neat. Wouldn’t you know it, both of my kids are now very, very neat and I struggle to keep things picked up.

5. Necessary - It’s nice when I’m able to buy something that is not a necessity. I don’t do this often, but it does feel good.

6. Neck - I have a man’s neck. You heard me. I big, huge neck. I’ve never been able to wear a blouse with the top button buttoned. That was true when I weighed 115 lbs. I just have a big, short neck. Whenever I put on a regular t-shirt the first thing I do is stretch the neck because its too tight. I can't stand anything tight around my neck. Like I said, I have a BIG neck.

7. Neglect - That is what my house plants receive from me. I only have two live plants, a spider plant, and I don’t know the name of the other one. I use to have several live plants and they died one by one. The spider plant is a baby from the house warming plant I gave my son 20 years ago. My daughter took the baby and it grew into a huge plant. When she got a cat she asked me to take the plant. I've had it for 8 or 9 years.

8. Never again - Boy, how many times have I said “never again”. After failing at never again for many things, I now never say “never again”.
Did I just say never?

9. News - I get most of my news from Good Morning American, the ABC evening news, or the internet. I only glance at the newspaper and go straight for the Sudoku.

10. Nikon - How can I do an “N” list without saying again, I recently bought the Nikon d40. I'm still playing with it and haven't taken any pictures that are blog worthy.

11. Notebook - When I worked I kept a notebook on my desk to record all my telephone calls. Many times it would only be the persons name and 3 or 4 words about the subject of the call. But, when I had to follow up with this person, or mail something to them I would put a star in the margin. Whenever I completed what was necessary I would draw a circle around the star showing it was complete. It was a simple method of staying on top of things.

12. Nap - I'm unable to take a nap in the afternoon because of my sleeping disorders. If I would nap, I would be up all night.

13. Nest - Every spring our trees are filled with bird nests.

Thanks for reading.

3. Minister - My brother was a Baptist minister and he went on several missionary tours overseas. He was in Russia the week before he was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Just today we were talking on the phone and he proudly told me he will be in second grade in the fall and that he loves “times”. He began reciting 2x2=4, 3x3=6, and so forth. During normal conversations he talks in numbers, “I threw up 6 times or I ate 8 crackers”.

12. Mystery - Mysteries are my favorite books.

13. Mountain state - I have lived in the Mountain State, West Virginia, for most of my life. The mountains makes me feel safe and secure. Fall is the most beautiful time of the year when mother nature paints the hills with vibrant oranges, yellows, and reds.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

1. Locust - They have arrived! Day and night I can hear their humming which brings back fond memories when I was a child. I can remember sitting in the kitchen with Mom and my sister and hearing the locust singing in the night. Back then we didn’t have air conditioning, so the back door was always open. Since many people are looking at the locust as a nuisance, I’m reflecting back on some wonderful memories.

2. Lawn landscape - Before I remembered that locust was going to be visiting this year I had planned on getting more scrubs and doing a little more landscaping. This will just have to wait until next year.

3. Laredo - I lived in Laredo in 1967-1968. Our apartment was under the landing and takeoff pattern of the military airplanes. It was very noisy. While sunbathing the pilots would wave their wings to say “hello”.

We were staying in one of the downtown hotels and had to be their for two weeks because hubby was there on business. We moved out of that hotel and got one out at Mount Vernon and hubby drove into the city everyday. The kids were preschoolers at the time. I wanted to come home, but hubby told us we would be safe this far from the city.

11. Library - The library has become my best friend. I use to buy books, but now that I’m reading more, I now check books out from the library. This has opened up a whole myriad of authors for me to enjoy. Before, I would only choose a book by authors I was familiar with.

12. Locum tenens - When I was working, I was involved in trying to establish a locum tenens program for my State. Due to the medical malpractice issues this was very difficult to accomplish.

13. Lumberjack - The Lumberjack song is one of my favorites from Monty Python. Here is Eric Idle singing the Lumberjack Song.

4. Kerchief - Always thought this was a funny word. Why can’t it just be called a scarf.

5. Kindergarten - When my kids were little, Kindergarten was considered preschool. Now kids can start preschool when they are 3 years old. I think that is right. My grandchildren started when they were 4. Campbell, my grandson, graduated from preschool this year and will go to kindergarten this fall. Here's a few pictures celebrating his special day.

2. Iced tea - This is my favorite daytime drink. I can't touch it after 4:00 p.m. because of the caffeine. I've tried the decaf tea, and trust me, it still has enough caffeine to keep me up all night.

3. Identical - My Mom was a twin but they were definitely not identical twins. My aunt Maysel weighed 3 pounds and Mom weighed 2 1/2 pounds at birth. They were born in 1912 so it's a miracle they survived.

4. Iodine - Do you remember when we used iodine to disinfect cuts? Oh had that burned. That's all we had 40 years ago.

5. Image - It amazes me when I hear someone has paid 6 figures for a potato chip that has the image of Elvis it.

Thursday Thirteen

1. Handwritten - Since the computer age I rarely get a handwritten letter from family and friends. But, my daughter sends me handwritten thank you cards for every little gesture I give. I cherish these notes that are also signed by my grandbabies.

2. Hazel - My eyes are hazel. Sometimes they look very blue and other days green. I guess that’s just a characteristic of hazel eyes.

3. Heart attack - I had a heart attack four years ago and I still worry about having another one. Unlike men, women usually don't experience chest pain, but pain in their ears and jaws. I didn't know this until it was too late. Now every time I feel any pressure at all in my ears I think "here it comes". Maybe I'm turning into a hypochondriac.

4. High heels - I use to love to wear high heels You know those “Joan Crawford Come **** Me Pumps”. Now I would probably break a leg trying to wear anything over 2 inches. Just this past week I dreamt of shopping for the spike heels.

5. Hershey bar - I can’t do a list without listing some type of chocolate. This is my favorite, even better than Godiva.

6, Hiding place - Do you have a special little hiding place for money? I use to always keep a few hundred dollars in my sock drawer inside of a sock for an emergency or in case I wanted to leave town in a hurry. That was before AMT cards and machines. Now I probably don’t have $5.00 in my purse.

7. Hillbilly - That’s what people call us folks from West Virginia.

8. Horoscope - I’m not a believer in horoscopes but I read mine almost every day. If my horoscope said I was going to be coming into a lot of money or meet a tall dark stranger I wouldn’t give it a second thought. However, if it said not to travel or fly, I would definitely stay put. Now does that me superstitious?

9. Hollywood - I’ve been to California a few times but never to Hollywood. I hope I’m able to go before the big sign is torn down.

10. Home homebody - As much as I love to travel I am a hopeless homebody. I am most happy right here in the comfort of my home.

11. Hunger - Why is it that when I’m dieting I’m constantly hungry. A guy in my weight loss group is a true inspiration. In the past 2 years he has lost 168 pounds. He told me he always want something to eat at night, so he eats a lettuce sandwich with a little mustard. I’ve been buying the 35 calorie bread and loading it up with lettuce and it does work. That is only 1 weight watchers point.

12. Hurricane - I live in Hurricane, West Virginia. Hurricane is not pronounced like the storm. It is pronounced (her a kuhn)

13. Honesty - This is an extremely important trait for anyone to possess. I think I'm an honest person and if you asked any of my friends they would say so too.

Thursday Thirteen

We were asked to develop a list of 13 vacation spots. I did this but felt I should also have links so you would know where all my fun places are. I have not had the time to do this. I will try to have this for next week.

This week is brought to you by the Letter G

1. Galaxy - I’ve always been mystified by the stars. Recently I’ve been studying the galaxies and universe. Can you believe some experts think our universe is 156 billion light years wide. My question, what is beyond that measurement?

2. Gamble - I love to gamble. Locally I play Keno. When in Las Vegas it’s the slots or Black Jack.

6. Gasoline - The price of gasoline is unbelievable. I don’t know what people like us, who are on fixed incomes are going to do. I’m now evaluating my driving patterns and have reevaluated my gambling. Good news…..while writing this post this morning I received a call from a State program I’m enrolled with, and they said I have won a $50.00 gift card for gasoline!!! Woo Hoo!!!

7. Geology - I took a geology course in college because my husband told me it was an easy A. NOT!! My class was at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. I could care less about this subject. What is so funny about this, my son received his PhD in geology. Who would have thought!

8. Generous - I consider myself a generous person. I enjoy giving to others.

9. Giggle - When I get together with a group of my girlfriends we always get the giggles. What annoys hubby is when I get the giggles while watching TV. Many times something that is said reminds me of something from my past and I’ll giggle until I cry. Giggles are such a good feeling

10. Government - I worked for State Government within the Bureau of Public Health for 23 years. I did not let any moss grow under my feet when I reached eligibility for retirement.

11. Grocery shopping - I hate going grocery shopping so hubby says, “If you will write the list, I’ll go”. Writing the list is actually the hardest part. Seems like I’m always at a loss of what to get. Any more, nothing sounds that great.

12. Grown up - At the age of 60 I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. I didn’t think I would still feel like a little girl when I was 60.

13. Graham cracker pie - My favorite pie is graham cracker. I find myself eating it in layers.

1. E-mail - How did we manage before e-mail? Now if it wasn’t for e-mail we wouldn’t communicate as often with our family and friends.

2. Economics - When I was in high school economics was not a subject that was taught. Looking back I can’t understand why economics was omitted from our curriculum. This is one topic that everyone would benefit from. I can’t remember a time using my trigonometry.

3. Election - This is an election year. I wrote a paragraph on this subject then erased it. It's best keeping my opinions to myself. I will say I’m not excited about this year’s election.

4. Electrician - Hubby was an electrician.

5. Elmer was my Daddy’s name.

6. Elvis was and still is one of my favorite singers.

7. Emotional - Sometimes I get real emotional, especially when I talk about my grandbabies.

8. Employed - Being retired means I am no longer employed. Yippee!!!

9. Empty - Seems like my car is always on empty and then I dread going to the Exxon station.

10. Exercise - I have been doing a regular exercise routine since this past November.

11. Energy - By doing all this exercise I thought I would have more energy by now.

12. Exhausted - After my exercise routine I am totally exhausted.

13. The End
