Down syndrome occurs in one out of every 733 live births. There are more than 350,000 people in the US alone with this genetic condition. The National Down Syndrome Society works through education, research and advocacy, to ensure that all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to achieve their full potential in community life.The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 to raise awareness and to raise funds for the Down Syndrome Society. This is the 5th year Jacksonville, Florida is participating in the annual Buddy Walk that will be held on October 13. Why am I so interested in this walk? I have a grandson, Seth, who was born with Down syndrome on October 31, 2005. Through the efforts and support of the Jacksonville Down Syndrome Association, Seth is receiving the education and therapy he needs to become a valuable member in the community.
If you would be interested in supporting Seth this year through the Buddy Walk, you can join his team. Every dollar raised helps a child with Down syndrome, and remember all donations are tax deductible.
